Wow!! Another year!! 2010 flew by and before we know it we will officially be finished with 1/2 of our school year. If the second half goes as well as the first half, we will be in good shape!! :-)

The first two weeks of 2011 will be spent on review (to refresh the students after their Christmas break), new instruction, a pretest and a test. The specifics are as follows.

7th grade:
Mon., Jan. 3 - Fri., Jan. 7: The 7th graders will not have homework this entire week. We will be working on a Fraction/Decimal/Percent mini-unit that will include lots of practice with equivalencies and will culminate with a quiz on Friday over common fractions, decimals, and percents.

The Service Learning component of C.E.A.S.L. (Character Education And Service Learning) is going well. The students are anxious to serve in the community. Several of them are helping at a Fun Run/5K/10K on Sat., Oct. 2 in Mattoon. All Jr. High students will have the opportunity to serve on Friday, Oct. 15. We will use the afternoon to help at NES Sports Day, the Community Clothes Line, Camp New Hope, Lockhart Cemetary, and right here in our own building. The students will be able to sign up for activities in the near future. Looking ahead, the Jr. High will host a bake sale on Sat., Oct. 30 with all proceeds going to the Community Clothes Line.

Hello! This week is very low on homework! Parents: Don't worry - the students are working very hard in class; there just happens to not be homework assignments on the majority of nights this week! Enjoy the beautiful evenings!

7th grade: There will be a TEST on WEDNESDAY. All 7th graders will go on the science field trip on Thursday and won't have math class. The only assingment this week will be L. 16, due Friday.

8th grade: We will be working on a project on Mon. - Wed. All work should be able to be completed in class as long as students use their time wisely. The only homework assignment will be L. 19, due Friday.

Some "extras" we've introduced the students to this year in Math Class are the Quizzle puzzle and Negative Ned (8th grade) and Blink and the Fraction Empire Game (7th grade). Ask your students about these games and activities they are participating in.
